Wawa Bodies of Water
Located near the town of Wawa, Wawa Lake spans 11 km (7 mi). Spring fed, it is a popular place for water recreation including swimming and fishing for trout.
Lake Superior is the largest of the five Great Lakes and also has the largest surface area of any freshwater lake in the entire world at 82,000 sq km (32,000 sq mi). The lake separates the province of Ontario and the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. The lake is fed by over 200 rivers and the Sault Locks at Sault Ste. Marie allow ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes.
Flowing from Dog Lake, Michipicoten River empties into Michipicoten Bay on Lake Superior. It spans a scenic 113 km (70 mi) and is used for recreation such as paddling, fishing and bird watching. It is also used for hydroelectric power. It is named after the Michipicoten First Nations who have occupied the land for centuries.
